You can always donate securely online or mail us a check to:

Gifts of Stock or Securities

When you donate securities, you make an outsized impact without taking money directly out of your bank account. Plus, neither you nor CHA will be taxed on the gains for appreciated assets you donate.

Here's how to proceed:

  1. Contact Director Sarah Driever at (651-220-6185)  or sarah.driever@childrensmn.org for additional information on giving a gift of closely held stock.
  2. Seek the advice of your financial or legal advisor.
  3. If you include CHA in your plans, please use our legal name, address and federal tax ID.

Legal name: Children's Hospital Association, Inc.
Address: 345 Smith Avenue North

Garden View Tower, Suite 600A

St. Paul, MN 55102
Federal tax ID number: 41-0722605

Real Estate

While donating real estate is easier than you might think, a financial advisor may give you personalized guidance for your tax situation. For property worth $5,000 or less, you simply need a receipt from the charity and you must complete Section A of Form 8283 and attach it to your tax return. For property worth more than $5,000, in addition to the receipt, you must also have CHA complete Section B of Form 8283. Additionally, you'll need to get a qualified appraisal to deduct the property's value from your taxes. In most instances, CHA will sell the property and the proceeds will go to CHA-funded programs at Children's Minnesota.

Give through a Donor Advised Fund

Here's how to proceed:

1. Choose the amount you wish to grant

2. Provide your contact information so that we can ensure your donation is used as intended

Legacy Gifts

Legacy gifts are typically deferred or scheduled for the future – often as part of financial or estate plans. While we often take a ‘what can we do now’ approach to charitable giving, the truth is planned giving is a great way to maximize charitable impact after your lifetime.

Other benefits include:

  • Planned giving provides an opportunity to leave a major gift that may not have been possible in a donor’s lifetime due to financial commitments.
  • Charitable gifts are often exempt from estate tax, allowing more of the gift to go directly to the organization.
  • Donors can avoid capital gains taxes when they transfer assets as part of a planned gift, maximizing the charitable contribution.

How your donation helps

Donating non-cash assets–like the ones listed above–often comes with greater tax benefits, increasing the overall value of your contribution while making a sizable impact on our mission. When you donate to CHA, you‘re investing in our mission of improving lives of children and families receiving integral health care programs and services at Children’s Minnesota. This act of generosity can also ease your family’s tax burdens. Thank you for considering CHA in your giving plans!
